The Importance of Missions Conference Month

November is Missions Conference Month at Laurel Baptist Church, and I am excited to have visiting with us missionaries whom our church supports on a monthly basis. Check out the schedule:

  • Sunday, November 1st – Ken Baker (New York City)
  • Sunday, November 8th – Robbie Ellis (Medical Missions)
  • Sunday, November 15th – Matt Goins (Honduras)
  • Sunday, November 22nd – Edgar Feghaly (Middle East)

Why set aside an entire month to promote world-wide missions through this missions conference?

TO FULFILL OUR PURPOSE AS A CHURCH IN DOING ALL WE CAN TO TAKE THE GOSPEL AROUND THE WORLD.

It’s who we are, a church dedicated to fulfilling the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20). It is God’s desire that we be passionately involved in sharing the gospel with our family and neighbors here in Charlotte, but also doing whatever we can to share the gospel with those around the world, especially them that have never heard the name Jesus. God has called families to take the gospel where you and I may never go. Through the missions conference we can learn about these works around the world and how we can be involved both personally as individuals, and corporately as a church family.

TO ENCOURAGE MISSIONARY FAMILIES WHO ARE GIVING THEIR LIVES TO OBEY THE GREAT COMMISSION.

One of the blessings of missions conference month is to encourage these missionaries whom we love so dearly. I’m thankful for each one. They have dedicated their lives and have sacrificed so much to fulfill God’s calling on their life. This special month allows us to express how much we love and appreciate them. It’s a privilege for our church to partner with them in the gospel.

TO CHALLENGE OUR FAMILIES TO ATTEND MISSION TRIP OPPORTUNITIES THROUGH OUR CHURCH.

We want you to consider attending a mission trip through our church. These opportunities are made available regularly and we take this month to encourage you to consider it. It has been life-changing for me and my wife to go on mission trips. I, personally, have been able to preach on several occasions in Central America, South America, Europe, Asia, and many church plants here in North America. One missions organization we support, Medical Missions Outreach, will be with us this month. They specialize in taking short-term trips, every month, for medical missions and general outreach endeavors. We want you to prayerfully consider attending one of our mission trips coming up.

TO RENEW OUR COMMITMENT TO FAITH PROMISE FINANCIAL SUPPORT FOR WORLD-WIDE MISSION ENDEAVORS.

It’s how these missionaries get to the field and obey God’s calling on their life – our monthly financial support. Each year we renew our commitments to give to missions, above our tithes, for the next year. In 2015, you committed $79,000.00 and we are well on our way to reaching that goal. I am praying that God will allow you and I to commitment to monthly missions giving to, at least, reach that same goal if not more. Start praying now, and through each week, what God would have you to do through missions giving in 2016 as we hear from these missionaries this month. Commitment cards will be made available over the next couple of weeks as you make your commitments.

So, how can you and I be involved this month?

  1. Be faithful to all the mission services in November. Don’t miss a single one!!
  2. Participate in missions through giving commitments, prayer, and short-term mission trips.
  3. Be open to God’s leading in your life about world-wide missions involvement. Maybe during this month God would call you and your family to surrender as missionaries to His great harvest fields of the world.

Let’s pray…let’s give…let’s go! I’m excited about Missions Conference Month, and I hope you are too!
